Women of Afghanistan are eagerly waiting for the day that violence is out rooted on the world day of Elimination of Violence Against Women. World days, Peace process, Women’s rights Building humanitarian capacity ACBAR kicked off the 2nd Twinning Program with 20 National NGOs. In coming years ACBAR and 13 Advisors (3 National NGOs and 10 INGOs) will engage with guiding and mentoring the 20 NNGOs to be eligible for humanitarian funding to serve people in need. NGOs, Humanitarian space, Grand bargain Implementing SDGs in Afghanistan Kateb University held a conference on 29 August in Kabul to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Afghanistan. ACBAR participated on one of the discussion panels and highlighted the role of civil society in contributing to implementation of the SDGs. SDGs, Development ACBAR Strategy 2020 - 2022 ACBAR’s Midterm General Assembly on 30 October 2019 approved the new Strategy 2020 until 2022. Effective NGOs support Stronger Communities. NGOs, Communities ACBAR Members cover all of Afghanistan ACBAR has 155 National and International NGO members: 137 members reported at the beginning of 2019, that they are working in 11 sectors in 34 provinces and 341 out of 378 districts. In total 29,978 staff (22,374 men and 7,604 women) are employed. Humanitarian, Development and Peacebuilding activities Challenges of being a woman humanitarian worker in Afghanistan Working as a woman in this field is very difficult in Afghanistan due to different barriers of culture and tradition. Humanitarian, Emergency, Protection NGOs call for enabling environment ACBAR has written an open letter on the occasion of the Joint Coordination and Monitoring Board (JCMB) on 22nd July 2019 with recommendations to the Government of Afghanistan to ensure protection of civilians and aid workers and to reduce bureaucratic constraints for NGOs. JCMB, GMAFs, Protection, Enabling civil society, NGOs NGOs call for protection of civilians, aid workers and their facilities The continued use of violence by all parties involved in the Afghan conflict against civilians, especially against health care and education facilities and personnel, is a serious violation of the International Humanitarian Law and human rights law. This should be stopped. SCA and ACBAR held a press conference to address the Government of Afghanistan and the international donor community. Humanitarian, Protection, NGOs, GMAFs Break the vicious cycle of conflict and hunger After 40 years of conflict and displacement, a major structural livelihood crisis is resulting also in a chronic food security crisis with in 2018 the worst drought seen in decades. ACBAR was on the panel of the ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment side-event on Conflict and Hunger” and gave recommendations to improve the daily lives of all Afghan people. Humanitarian space, NGOs, Food security Commemorating World Refugees Day 2019 Afghan refugees are the largest protracted refugee population in Asia and the second largest refugee population in the world. ACBAR is in solidarity with all refugees and is working with its members to support on protection and basic needs to have a life in voluntary, safe, gradual and dignified manner to become self-reliant. In a conflict-prone country becoming injured with lifetime consequence is unfortunately frequent in Afghanistan.
